Dinghy Sailing

Both Cadet and Adult volunteers can enjoy dinghy sailing, either in their own locally maintained Unit fleet of dinghies or by using those of District, Area or National boat stations. Most dinghy sailing is recreational, which is essential for the development and practice of the skills learnt on training courses delivered at Royal Yachting Association  Training Centres.

Regattas – Dinghy Sailing are included in our National Combined Regatta and National Sailing Regatta. Entries to these events is usually by selection at District and then Area regattas.

Combined Regatta – The sailing section in this event is a Boat Handling competition. This competition is started by rigging the boat correctly and then sailing from a mooring, completing various seamanship tests before returning alongside and un-rigging to boat back to its original state. Further details can be found on this website under National Competitions/Combined Regatta.

Sailing Regatta – The National Sea Cadet Sailing Regatta, usually held in September each year, is a racing weekend, on similar lines to an open regatta, for several different classes of boat. The fleets are, Bosun Class, Pico Class, Topper Class, and open handicap. Further details can be found on this website under National Competitions/Sailing Regatta.
